I think you're right - Republicans are getting worried. The polls are tightening up.

But it strikes me as very funny that the Democrats are getting hysterical and overjoyed because their candidate is now... competitive.

"We're gonna win!" ...no, wait...

"We've got a shot!" ...hmmm. how about...

"We might have a chance!" Not really a compelling rallying cry, but that's what they've got at the moment.

I like a close race. It makes both sides realize that they better tone down the wacky rhetoric. The base of both parties is still sort of toward the center.
