Troy goes to Hollywood

I went to see the movie Troy last night. I thought the movie was entertaining and well done. Brad Pit was perfectly cast as the Greek Hero Achilles...he has that certain arrogance, pretty boy look about him.. with that cetain come hither look at times... Which will make the film a Gay Cult Classic.

What I didn't like was the fact that they didn't stay with the story at the end and that they made Achilles such a killing machine. If Achilles was so good why did the Greeks need an army...just send out Pit/Achilles as the Terminator.

I thought it would have bin far mor efective if Hector and Achilles met and fought during a pitched battle. Two that in a subsequent battle Achilles was killed by Paris's arrow and that the Greeks in abject despair at Achilles death, try one last thing the Trojan/USC horse. That the Greek King Aggemenon upon returning home was killed by his wife instead of Perspone (Hectors cousin and Achilles love interest). It would have been a better comeupence for Aggie.

Now I realize that a film maker only has 3 hours max to tell his story, and that means he has to be economical and pack as much information about character and story line in as short of time as he can. In that the film maker could have left out a couple of scenes , shot a few of the scenes in a different way to gain the additional time to follow the orginal story line. My question is how can you beat the sheer drama of the orginal Greek epic? Anything less is to rape the Illiad.

With regard to the politics of movie making, it sure seems that the script was tailored to Pit's liking giving him a coupla dramatic opportunities to strut his stuff. I personally think that the story line is more important than any character. In this case I think Pit would have agreed and put ego aside. After all the title of the movie is Troy and not Achilles the Greek.
