From my site: "The 911L was only produced in 1968, and was the flagship model in the U.S. It was same car as a 911S except with a detuned motor producing 130 HP; the 911S was not available in the U.S. in 1968.
The car is equipped with a 2.0 litre flat-6 engine with dual three-barrel Weber 40 IDA carburetors, also known as a boxer engine due to the opposing cylinders. The engine produce 130 HP (148 DIN) at 6400 RPM and 120 lbs. ft. of torque at 4800 RPM. The car came standard with the 5 speed 901 gearbox, and for the first time ever the Sportomatic transmission was offered in the U.S. The car weighed in at 2600 lbs. stock an was good for 130 MPH.
The car had a base price of $7,000 for a coupe and $8,000 for a Targa, the most expensive Porsche that year. There were a total of 5,400 911's produced in 1968.
The 1968 model has many unique features for this year only. Unique one year features inlude a break away rear view mirror, left cam chain cover, 2 piesce dash, and side markers.
There were also many diffrences between the U.S. and ROW (rest of the world) 911L. The ROW 911L lacked Dunlop S/P 57 tires, alloy wheels (Fuchs), front bumper guards, fresh air blower, leather cover steering wheel, fog lights, four-way emergency flasher, stabilizer bar rear, and the notorious smog pump; all standard on the U.S. version. The only thing feature the ROW L had that the U.S. did not was a steering wheel lock. "
A U.S. 911L is basically a 911S with only a 130 HP.
