Sure. I wanted to fit a set of watershields to my plastic RS stacks. I drilled a hole in-between the velocity stacks where the hex head bolts are in your picture. Since the plastic stacks have a big rubber O ring type deal on the top lip, i would push down a little, add a nut and lock washer to the bottom and the pressure from the rubber ring kept the nut from coming loose.
I had a machine shop bore those holes out to match the the top lip of the velocity stack. I thought i had them do 50mm (2") but i may be mistaken, or those arent mine. Heres a pic.
The only problem is that if you have a standard decklid, the right side hat will hit your grill just a bit. I bent my grill up slightly in one spot.
I have always thought that if you got a set of non-watershield K&N tops, you could cut a filter in half to make two, 2" tall filters. you should still get plenty of flow and it would clear your grill.
