It's a fretless 5-string Zon with Lightwave optical pickups.
That is actually a fairly lo-tech diy recording too. I took my powerbook to our rehearsal space, put 4 mics on the drums (x-y cross overhead, one on snare/hi hat and one on the kick). Guitar amp is mic'd, bass went direct and our vocalist sang live through the PA (so there is some bleed on the drum mics). Used a MOTU 896 interface and tracked using Logic. She overdubbed the various vocal tracks in my home studio. The choir thing is something we cooked up on the spur of the moment.
The drummer is 21 years old, and a monster with great feel and chops. Very fun to play with.
