The bus rocks! I thought much the same as you when I was 17 and had a job in Downtown Dallas. The commute was only 15 miles but 45 mins. long, I took the bus every day. First week sucked, then I found myself liking it. Perfect time time to relax, and take a nap. However, taking Greyhound from Memphis to Dallas in 13hrs. did suck, which I did several times. With that said, I bet my car craps out on my brother today!
