hi everyone! my name is jeff and am in need of some tech help,
i have a vw with a 1776 engine and i use the bosch 0 231 129 010 distributor, i have had this dist on this engine for three years now and do not beleive that i am timing it right, what should i set the timing at and what is the point settings ect ect. i read that it should be set a 7.5 btdc static. can this be right ? i have the timing at a total advance of 26 btdc @2500 rpm, my problem is that if i set it at 28 or 30 btdc the engine will ping at high rpm's
the local vw shop near me set the points at .016 gap and at high rpms the engine was jumpy like it was hit and miss on the spark, so i closed the gap a tad and it smoothed out,
i am just tired of the guess work. does anyone know what would be a good setting point for this dist, also what car was this dist originally put on, i was told its a porsche dist, if so what years and make so that i may be able to cross reverance any parts needed for the dist in question.
man i know that this sounds like alot of info i need but hopfully someone here is really on top of it, and can give me some direction.
