Paul,
Alldata is a system which provides Spec and Troubleshooting info for the majority of (modern) cars out there. It was originally marketed to mechanics and repair shops on a regularly distributed set of CDs. One could look up and print assembly diagrams, recall info, common problems, repair procedures and repair duration for costing jobs. While I believe it may still be available via CD the service is also available on their website on a subscription basis. They have a pretty attractive pricing structure for the DIYer as well.
BTW, a copy of the CD set is useless without the Alldata hardware lock that plugs into the parallel port.
