Foam Hood Insulation Dry and falling Off

My 928 is starting to show her years. The foam insulation on the underside of the hood is very dry and starting to peel off in clumps. The foam pieces are falling on the engine. I can pick off the pieces after the engine cools, the clumps do not melt and stick to the engine, thats a good thing. I considered peeling all of it off and replacing it. After I peel the insulation off, can I use the car a couple of times without replacing the insulation? Do I have to worry about the heat from the engine ruining the paint job on the hood?
Also, does anybody have any idea where to get replacement insulation? Any suggestion for an alternative material if I cant get the original stuff? Thanks for the help.
