On the 901's in any of the 914's I've owned, you really
cannot shift back down into first. Try not to slow down
so much that you bog the motor in second (may be
tough with S cams).
I autocross my -6 all the time, and I usually don't beat
the car on the start line. Unless you're vying for a
national championship or something, launch safely,
go to second, don't worry about a few 10ths.
You could change second gear to whatever you want
if you get a 904 mainshaft.
