I concur, and said as much in the other thread (where said crime was being committed most recently). Misquoting someone is a complete failure of integrity, demonstrates no moral courage, and is just wrong. In order to have useful and productive discussions, we need to retain some semblance of order, and basic integrity is critical to that.

(Misunderstanding -- that's a different crime. Sometimes people are just terrible writers, and someone on the other end is less literate... differently literate? Whatever, incapable of taking the same ideas out of a piece of text than the author put in. That's just miscommunication, which is different entirely.)

But misquoting, blatent misattribution, etc. -- yeah, that's wrong.
