Compression and Leak Down have nothing to do with valve guide wear. Compression and leak down is the condition of the rings seating against the cylinder and the valves seating against the head. Valve guides are actually a sleve that the valve slides up and down in and is machined to a very close tolorance, it has a seal on the top of it to prevent oil traveling down the stem to the cylinder or exhaust port. When guides wear, the seal is not able to do it's job properly hence the oil usage. Do a search on valve guide wear, I'll bet there is a lot of information on it.
