I had an uncle (a rocket scientist at Rocketdyne) who used to take my Dad and I to the EdwardsAFB air show every year. My cousin and I (ages 7 or 8 or so) would be in the back of his Spyder convertible.
We (yes, us in the back seat) would go slighty airborne out in the desert wash crossings on the way there every year (days before seat belts), but I do remember the sound of that flat turbo singing.
