Toby Haliki was the actor, director, producer and stunt man/stunt coordinator. He was like Stallone in that he came to Hollywood to make a movie and nothing could stand in his way. He filmed a bunch of it in Long Beach. If you haven't heard his story, like on Biography, you would really be impresssed with this man. He is responsible for the whole car chase phenomonum in films. They still do his schtick today. Most of the scenes were filmed early Sunday mornings with no permits. He happened on to a train wreck and used the scene in the movie. He was very impromtu and made a lot of it as he went along.
He was killed making the sequel in one of his own stunts when a phone pole fell on his car. 48 years old. His wife still distributes the film
