Hey Mike --> welcome to the board. I've got a 1971 to which I've added 9" front flares and 9" rear flares (ST). The rear flares are not quite 11" RSR flares, but substantially wider than 8" Carrera type flares.
I'm debating whether to replace my ST rear flares w/ 11" flares (ala RSR) or stay where I am. Since I started this project, there's been big advances in tires making a street driven RSR w/big wheels and tires dooable. A few years ago all you could get were 16" x 9" wheels w/ 245/45 tires. Now...ck out this board.
You've got a couple of possibilities. Full f'glass front fenders w/RSR (9") already incorporated is one (cheaper) or steel later model 9" flares butt welded on - a good bodyman can fabricate the front section of the flare to "create" an early RSR fender (more $). You could still go with a "turbo" steel rear flare (almost but quite the same contour as an RSR 11" rear flare). There are many RSR bodied cars on this board (BBII being perhaps the most famous) w/examples of each. Just do a search (somehow!?) In my case I've no problem with the concept of "bonding" f'glass to the steel, but there are many who will insist on steel on steel. Depends on your budget and intended use for the car. Concours show type car ... go steel. Driver and or track car...I vote f'glass.
You'll get no concensus on this board as to the 'best f'glass. I've used GT racing for several projects over the years and have always been pleased. My only comment re f'glass is not to make your decision based on cost ... only on quality and fit. Any price diff can never be justified with an inferior fitting (time consuming) f'glass piece - especially the duck tail.
Perhaps I'll see you 'round town.
Jeremy
