...sheesh - what the heck does international (particularily Canadian) have to do with it? Personally, I'd pressure the guy to take Paypal, but then I've run into a few Americans that wont accept Paypal either. I certainly don't view US vs. Canadian as a factor in evaluating the risks of a particular deal.
Trust your nose. You've dealt with the guy before for gosh sake. Quit worrying about getting ripped off. Life's too short to let risk aversion screw-up good opportunities...
