Call me old fashioned, but I think every able bodied man and woman, before they are thirty should have basic military training if for no other reasons to develop some understanding of what war entails and to develop individual responsibility. Closest I came to anything representing combat in my 4 year enlistment was playing cards in a chemical suit. I'm sure the Coasties probable have it rougher.
