Re: Conservative Beliefs

Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush's daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him, and a bad guy when Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion.

Sorta like slick Willy would toss a few Tomahawks at bin Laden whenever he had a grand jury coming up?

Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony.

Clinton moves to tighten sanctions on Cuba, in his efforts to "build democracy" (sound familiar??)

Sanctions are first imposed on Cuba under the Kennedy (D) administration:

The United States should get out of the United Nations; but our highest national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iraq.

Too generalized and inflammatory to bother with. I'm not sure that the majority of Republicans believe we need to exit the UN, but I personally think it needs a serious wake-up call.

A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multi-national corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.

Cramer beat me to it. I will go toe-to-toe with you on this any day, but please don't generalize or twist my beliefs on abortion without presenting a real argument.

Jesus loves you and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.

Best part is, even if you're an atheist (or worse, Hillary Clinton), Jesus loves you too. Now then, couldn't I just turn around and say "Ellsworth Toohey loves you, and shares your hatred of Christians and George Bush"? Come on. Try harder.

The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay.

Analysis of civilian vs. military pay under the Clinton administration: http://www.rand.org/publications/RB/RB7502/RB7502.word.html

I will agree that the veteran pension issue is a good topic for debate. But I just had a conversation with a colleague who is a military wife, and she had nothing but praise for current trends in benefits and pay. Her husband is a NCO.

If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.

Gross and offensive oversimplification. We want condoms out of schools because they have no place there. Parents aren't taking NEARLY enough responsibility for the sexual education of their children. You want "Under God" out of the Pledge of Allegiance? Fine. As soon as sex-ed and condoms are out, I'll consent to deleting your two little words.

A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies ("that's old Europe") then expect their cooperation and money.

Guess what: our entire country (including you) is belittled by a lot of liberal European nations. It's been that way since before Iraq. Incidentally, France started rolling around like pigs in ***** in rebuild contracts without any encouragement from us.

Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy. Providing health care to all Americans is socialism.

Iraq spent an estimated $20 million on health care in 2002 -- or about 68 cents a person, the Iraq Ministry of Health said. In comparison, the U.S. government spends more than $4,000 per person, federal statistics show. (source: cnn.com). Of the rebuilding funds allocated to Iraq, yes, ~$800M is dedicated to health care. Question: What's different from rebuilding Europe after WWII?? Regardless of administration, the US has a trend of coming to the aid of a populace after armed conflict. That you would twist this into a domestic healthcare jab is predictable but unfair.

Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools.

Poppycock. Erskine Bowles (R) is one of the leading members of a bipartisan effort in NC to effect a multi-billion dollar tobacco buyout. Here's a '98 speech which both gives a nod to the Clinton administration while underscoring the deadly effects of tobacco:
http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/1998/03/30/transcript/

I think you'll find most of us want creationism taught in our homes, and we want schools to stick to 'readin', 'ritin', and 'rithmetic'. Oh, and perhaps a good game of dodgeball (bean the weenie!!!)

A President lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense. A President lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy.

What's the connection here? What's the pun? It's not even funny or clever. Yes, a President lying in sworn testimony is indeed impeachable. I'm surprised you didn't drag out the "war based on a lie" hack.

Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.

Gay marriage is already banned. We just don't want to overturn it. If you'd like to engage in discussion on gay marriage, start a thread. Internet censorship is a joke, and we ALL laugh at certain outdated extremists that continue to work to censor it.

The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's driving and military records are none of our business. Nor are Dick Cheney's task force discussions with energy industry our business either.

Completely POV. We could just as easily flip the roles back in the Clinton days. Yawn.

Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime unless you're a conservative radio host. Then it's an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery.

Cramer beat me to it.

What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the 1980s is irrelevant.

See above.

Funny: A colleague has a fishtank, and takes pride in naming all his fish. He has an algae problem in his fishtank of late, so last night he bought a couple of scumsucking fish to help control the filth. I of course asked what he named them. Response: "Bill and Hillary".
