My dad told us Dec. 28 of '87 he had throat cancer (the day after my sister's b'day and 5 months after he'd retired after 24 years in the Secret Service).
Throat cancer wasn't what killed him 5 months later, however. By the spring of '88 chemotherapy had killed the throat cancer, but by that point the soft tissue cancer had metastasized into bone cancer. At that point, it's pretty much a matter of time. And not a lot of time in my dad's case.

I apologize for what probably amounts to a hijack of this thread, which was probably intended to be a visual catalog of purely automotive carnage. However, now when I see a severely injured automobile, I think "some ordinary person was likely grievously injured, w/o warning. I've been through that....I wonder how they're doing."
