Payment for the item? Why not use a credit card? There are provisions to dispute the transaction if you don't receive what you pay for.
If you as a buyer wish to use an escrow service, then at this point, it's up to the buyer to pay for that service unless this was agreed to by both parties before the auction ended.
It shouldn't have to be more complicated then that.
