Stijn, I'm sure your are correct that you have "left lane nerds" in Europe as well but I would just say the precentage is much much lower because people are taught that the left lane is for passing only which results in some weaving in and out of traffic as you pass and move over. Here in California, that will get you pulled over for suspicious driving and violates the common mentality of "pick a lane you like and stay there". Flash your lights in Europe and people move over. Flash your lights here and you get the finger! It never really bothered me that much until I went to Europe a few times and recognized how much nicer it works. Sorry for the rant, it's a big pet peave of mine.
