It's awfully hard to get any info on Afghanistan.
AFAIK, 85% of the country was essentially unaffected by the takeover -- it was just another few months in 26 years of war, after all. outside the few cities, local Mullahs rule, and where they don't, warlords do. Women are forced to wear burkahs and can't go out alone. Farmers are growing poppies for heroin, because that's the only dependable cash crop. Same ol' same ol'.
The Taliban had plenty of warning to get out of the way, and a large number fled to neighboring countries -- mostly Pakistan. Wouldn't be surprised if a lot had filtered back in.
Afghanistan is a work in progress. It's far from 'mission accomplished.'
