Radar detectors in France - don't!
[July 2004]
Thousands of British motorists are beginning to think about that trip across or under the channel in search of sun, cheap wine and good food. A few hundred drivers will take radar detectors with them - not a good idea!
They are illegal in France and the Gendarmerie are merciless - a good little earner for the cops - who are targetting GB cars. I returned a few months ago 750 euros poorer and without a radar detector.
My saving on wine just about covered the cost. Luckily I was not imprisoned and my car was not confiscated - you have been warned.
I would be extremely pleased if this letter results in fewer euros being paid to the the French "Tresor Public" during August. Have a nice holiday.
