That fat hillbilly can also turn a phrase:

"[I]t depends on how you define "alone" ... there were a lot of times when we were alone, but I never really thought we were."
"It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is"

The president was giving a speech in Berlin in May, 1998, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Airlift, which kept the city afloat in 1948-49 when Stalin attempted to starve it into submission. Clinton chose to give special recognition to then-Lt. Gail Halvorsen of Provo, Utah, who had dropped packages of candy for Berlin's children from his aircraft as he landed with supplies at Templehoff Airport.
"She is here with us today," the president declared, speaking of Halvorsen. "I'd like to ask her to stand."
Gail Halvorsen then stood up - Mr. Gail Halvorsen, a 77-year old grandfather.
"Thank you, Sir, " said Clinton.
President Clinton was interviewed on January 21, 1998 by Jim Lehrer on his alleged affair with a Whitehouse intern and subsequent alleged subornation of her perjury. Clinton said, "I'm just trying to suppress my natural impulses and get back to work."
"There are a lot of very brilliant people who believe that the nation-state is fast becoming a relic of the past,"
- President Clinton, New York Times, November 25, 1997
In January 1994 Clinton made a trip to Europe. At that time there was some friction between the European leaders and the U.S. about troop deployments in Bosnia. While in Belgium, the European leaders and Clinton had a cocktail party. It was covered by CNN. On their 3:00PM (CST) broadcast, CNN with Frank Cezno showed a clip of the party. It showed Clinton talking to Helmut Kohl and saying, "I was thinking of you last night, Helmut, because I watched the sumo wrestling on television."
Bill Clinton, January 27, 1992, speaking about the allegations that he had a 12 year affair with Gennifer Flowers..."They've been exposed as the trash they are"

"When I was a younger man and had a life," stated Clinton, "I owned an El Camino pickup in the '70s. It was a real sort of Southern deal. I had Astroturf in the back. You don't want to know why, but I did."
"And the deficit has come down for four years in a row for the first time since before the Civl War. I meant to say since before World War II. But maybe it should be since before the Civil War."
In his speech to the Fraternal Order of Police in Cincinnati, OH during the 1996 election, President Clinton bragged on the strong Ohio economy. However, he forgot to tell the audience that at the time Ohio had a Republican Governor, top five State officials were all Republicans, both the State House and Senate were controlled by Republicans, a Republican US Senator and 13 of 19 US Representatives were Republicans.
"Thanks for the poncho."
President Clinton said this when he was presented with the Romanian tri-color flag during his visit in July. The flag did have a head-sized hole in the middle... But flags with the centers ripped out are the norm in Romania these days. With holes where the hated communist emblem used to be, such flags symbolize the 1989 anti-Communist revolt that led to the establishment of democracy. Shouldn't our President KNOW this??
Associated Press 8/27/97
"The last time I checked, the Constitution said, 'of the people, by the people and for the people.' That's what the Declaration of Independence says."

"We can't be so fixated on our desire to preserve the rights of ordinary Americans to legitimately own handguns and rifles"
"It has not worked. No one can say it has worked, so I decided we're either going to do what we said we're going to do with the U.N., or we're going to do something else."
"African-Americans watch the same news at night that ordinary Americans do."
President Clinton learned there were 100,000 cattle guards in Colorado. Since Clinton was so upset with ranchers' protests over his grazing policies, he told U.S. Secretary of Interior Bruce Babbitt to fire half the cattle guards immediately. Before Babbitt could proceed with the President's wishes, Colorado representative Pat Schroeder intervened with a request that before any were fired, they would be given six months of retraining. Clinton obviously did not know that a cattle guard is a bunch of parallel pipes that cattle will not cross because they can't walk on pipes.
"the purpose of government is to rein in the rights of the people"
