The high pressure hose connection is the smaller on of the two. The hose to the lid condenser -- the smaller of the two hoses at the compressor -- is connected there. The larger connection is the suction side -- the larger hose connects there.
If you are talking about the R-12 service ports, they are both the same size. The his pressure side is marked "D" for 'discharge'. The other one is "S" for 'suction'.
