If you really knew your history re: the Vietnam war, you would know that there was no chance of winning, with the restrictions made by the administration(s) of the time. Certain targets were off the table, limiting the damage that could be done. Even the Generals knew this, and were scrambling around for an exit strategy.
Given this, that some individuals would come back disillusioned is no surprise, or shouldn't be. And, since it was "unwinnable", why did all those brave men and women die? Should it have been finished years before it was? Should it have happened at all? I am surprised that more did not protest.
I was not in 'Nam, although I was in the Coast Guard at the time. Friends of mine served there, and the stories of those who came back were horrific at best. I lost a few as well.
War is not a computer game that can be restarted. Real people die.
