On the lower cooling tin It is very very inportant the are there. Not only do the direct the air but they also slow the air down so it can cool the cylinder. Have you every seen a car that the thermostat was remove to help th car stay cool but it really hurts it rather than helps in the water flows so fast thru the radiator that it dosen't get a chace to cool off.
How much did you fan/alt setup cost?
In a T-1 car the oil cooler is very close to the body with there fan shroud.
