So what will that make Powell in 2008? A democratic candidate? An independent? He has much more credibility than Cheney - not just with Americans, but on the world stage. I think alienating Powell would be quite a large mistake. He's visible and can be vocal; plus he isn't afflicted with nearly as much controversy as Cheney, i.e. Halliburton, main architect of Iraq, etc.
