Of course the 997 is as distant from the original 911 as the Enzo is to the original GTO as the Z06 C6 is to the original Corvette as the Jag XK is to the XKE as the .....
So what's the point? All the great sportscars have evolved and are laden with safety, emission-control and 'luxury' features these days. 20 years from today when cars are hydrogen powered and have auto-pilot, the 997 and its contemporaries will seem like bare-bones sportscars as well .....
