Most of the time multicylinder engines have one carburator but those engines weren't desitned with that in mind. they were desigined to have a carb each and thus are machined in a way expecting that. I'm sure that you could fit a venturi where the intake is with and pipe that to a single carb but that would be a lot of piping to overcome. Lots of choke needed for that...

I think your right though - clearly a good place for a megasquirt.
