Naah. It simply means that someone swapped in a 914-6 temp gauge.

The Six was the only 70-73 914 that had an in-dash temp gauge. You can tell it's a 70-73 gauge because of the silver cones in the center. In later years, 2.0 cars that did not have center consoles also had the in-dash temp gauge--but there was no silver cone in the middle of the gauge...

It is possible that some 73 2.0s came without center consoles, but those would be a real rarity.

...Anyway, it just means someone added the gauge.
