On paper, the Sox have a huge advantage in a playoff series. Think about it; in a seven game series, you will probably see Pedro twice and Schilling either twice or three times. The other days? Arroyo has owned the Yankees this year, and (Game 7 2003 aside), Wakefield has owned the Yankees for his whole career. The Yankees have Mussina, whose postseason record is suspect at best, and that's about it.
The bullpens are comparable, but the Yankees have the edge there. Granted, the Sox HAVE gotten to Rivera this year.
The Yankees have a better starting-line up, but the Sox have a superior bench, and have the advantage of making defensive changes if they get the lead. They did this last night; Sox got a one-run lead that they needed to protect, so Mankiewicz and Youkilis were put into the infield. When the Sox need to switch from offense to defense, they have three gold-glove winning infielders they can rely on (Cabrera, Reese, Mankiewicz).
BUT, the Yankees are the Yankees and have a history of beating the odds (deal with the devil?), so I'm not making any predictions.
Besides, the division series aren't over yet.
