I like hunting, though it has been some time since I have taken the time to stalk with Wild Wapiti. Anyway, one of the smartest ideas I've heard for folks who are going to spend some time in the woods, particularly if it is griz country, is to carry a hand-cannon in a shoulder holster. My suggestion would be a .357. Nearly as much punch as a .44, with more penetrating power. Either of those two pistols could physically stop an advance, at least a couple of seconds per trigger-squeeze.
