I'm a big supporter of whirled peas. I just hate chewing the damn things.

I live at ground zero of the Southern California peace movement, in Hollywood, where they assemble for their bi-monthly highly annoying and traffic-clogging agitations. So I get an up-close view. Be assured, it is not a pretty sight. To go out among them is to quite literally feel oppressed by the combination of inanity (in their posters and messages) and personal hostility (in their manner). These are just about the angriest (i.e., least "peaceful") people I've ever seen in my life. The air is just heavy with their hate. I used to walk out and mingle among them, armed of course with my prominent American flag pin and my trusty K9 in case things got dicey, but I realized that the possibility of engaging one of them in a quasi-reasonable discourse as to why Bush may not be a bigger terrorist than bin Laden and Hussein seemed hopeless. The mere sight of my American flag pin would elicit either total aversion or angry scowls. I've been to rallies of all different kinds that were provocative and joyful and full of interesting people with slightly different points of view, but,a s PJ O'Rourke might say, these ones ain't it.

Peace.
