The 1976 912E already has the 911's engine mounting brackets located at the rear corners of the engine compartment. I believe the earlier 912s would need to have these welded in.
About the only other differences (in 1976) were that the 912's rear windows were fixed, and the rotors were solid, where the 911 had vented rotors.
what to look for? RUST!
