About selling a Porsche
I am selling my car to get a newer Porsche. The ads have been posted for about a month now and I must say it has been an experience.
There are some interesting people out there that contact sellers.
Some are truly interested my car, others want to talk about cars and others I think might just be bored.
Then there are those that contact you that want to advertise your car somewhere for a fee, some that want to send you a certified check for more than you are selling it for and then of course there are the lowballers. I think that there are others that are just collecting pictures of Porsches.
Right now my strategy is to advertise on Porsche related special interest boards. I have not tried PML, Hemmings, Autotrader or Ebay. If I get one more one line email that says "Why R U selling?" I think I will scream. Better yet I get unsolicited commentary like "your car is not an original 911E." Well yeah, that's the point...I installed a bigger motor to go faster.
Years ago when I was selling my 78 911 targa I put it in the front yard of my house with a for sale sign. Never again! Several interested "buyers" wanted to give me a down payment and make payments every month when they had the money. Uh, you better talk to a bank about that. Others wondered if the car was a souped up Volkswagon. Sigh.
Is this the way it is? What have other experienced? Better yet any advice?
Thanks.
Chuck
