The plenums in the pics were indeed modified, but not by Andial technically. You guys want the scoop, here ya go:
Before Extrude Hone became prominent in the early 1990's, Andial used to take the 3.2L plenums over to Ollie's Porsche Machining where Ike would cut them open, polish the insides, and then reweld them. You can see the unsightly welds but at the time there really wasn't another option. They were sold on an exchange basis, meaning you purchased a set that were on the shelf with a core charge and then were refunded the core charge when you sent your stock pieces in. Yours would then be sent out to be polished and welded for the next guy.
Once Extrude Hone made their services known in the industry, we had a set done and tested them on the engine dyno back to back. The welded version and the extrude honed versions made comparable numbers on the engine dyno. Like I said, not a huge difference.
The extrude honed versions are now sold by Andial not because they make any more power, but because they look stock on the outside. The cost to polish and weld the plenums vs. extrude honing them is basically a wash.
Figure about $400-$450 to have yours done by Extrude Hone. They do have a price list on their website for the Carrera plenums.
FWIW, my 3.2L U.S. spec Carrera motor made 199 rwhp on a dynojet 248C with a Steve Wong chip, Dansk pre-muffler and Dansk 1 in 2 out sport muffler.
