I was recently pondering the same question about the Griffith-another TVR. Rover V8 in a glass bodied sports car. Light and fast and cheap (relatively speaking). TVRs used to be (late 70s/early 80s) somewhat available in the states. A guy down the street from me had a few. I think govt regs have made it difficult at best to get one here now, however. The Griffith is also one you might check out. Zero to 60 in 5.4 seconds. Top speed around 150. As Isabo said-not Porsche quality, but high in performance. Most of the TVR issues are quality control items such as door handles breaking etc. The drivetrain is fairly reliable, common and easy to work on.
I believe Travolta drives a Chimera in that last spy movie he did with Halley Berry. I remember the car, but forget the title. The movie itself was pretty forgettable for that matter.
