I see the problem as more than drugs...

Basically, you have people who are valued for their cheap labor and willingness to work hard. However, their kids are raised here and have zero interest in such a lifestyle. Like every other immigrant group, they want more and expect more. And we value them not at all.

So they grab on to the worst aspects of our popular culture (violence & etc) with nothing else to anchor them. They are not broadly accepted into modern America, we are too busy convincing ourselves of the need for "diversity" to do that. More often than not their parents are illiterate, with no education of their own. School is seen as a joke. How many of these kids sit in a billingual ed class, knowing in their hearts they are tracked onto a losing path, falling behind the mainstream?

Not needed or wanted for the hard work their parents do, not equiped to move up the socioeconomic ladder. Drugs, gangs, crime, violence. What else you got??
