Due to a conservative new chancellor who made it his personal crusade to change the culture of UCSB, on and OFF campus! He teamed up with the local PD to instill new draconian police-state rules. All greek houses are DRY! All their parties are DRY! Even parties in the student town of Isla Vista next to UCSB are DRY! The police can enter ANY house without a warrant and issue $3000 tickets to everyone living there (each) if they find liquor at a party and a single person under 21 in attendance! Halloween used to be the biggest party of the year bringing in over 50,000 people from out of town. A couple years ago with the new overlord in power, it was killed off completely. This year it recovered somewhat because Halloween fell on a weekend, but nowhere near the previous glory we used to have...
