I feel your pain, I have a sick kitten right now and have lost cats in the past. I would always get a 2nd opinion from any vet. We have been scammed by vets in the past and I don't trust any of those frankenstein wanna be doctors.
One cat they wanted 80 to put him to sleep or 250 for experimental surgery. We said F that and brought him home to see what fate had in store. He lived 5 years after that and the vets were totally wrong. This wasn't the first or last time they tried to jack us. Can you confirm he has the tumor?
Many older cats throw up and get skinny. This is due to kidney diesese partially due to the dry cat food. Most of the time its terminal but you can prolong it. One cat had something like this and it was a hair ball in his stomach. But you might want to google for kidney diese and dry food. You'll be shocked what you find. Cats weren't meant to eat processed cat food, they should be eating birds and mice.
We have 4 cats and 2 of them are 15 years old suffering from this same type of thing. Kiwi probably won't die immediately from throwing up.
