That's not what I, or anybody I've quoted, said or means. It's not my "reasoning," it's yours, and "with that kind of reasoning" you might conclude you should drink your used oil. It is, frankly, a perverse syllogism and knocking down an argument nobody's made.
I haven't advocated pollution or reckless use of resources. What the volcano data point to is an open question as to whether we as humans are behind any temperature increase. Answer that one first, then figure out what we can do, what we should do, and how to do it. If we're not behind the issue, there is little sense behind crushing economies to make a barely significant (if any) change. Note again -- that's not to say "hey, since we didn't cause this, let's go on out and pollute!"
Nor is pollution the exclusive residuum of capitalism, however warm and fuzzy that feels for collectivists to repeat. The Soviets, though they would "commit any atrocity to satisfy their desire", were not exactly "capitalists" in Tony-ese. However, they polluted and deforested and generally wreaked eco-havoc w/o consideration for the environment (and that's not counting mass graves as eco-havoc, either).
Anybody else here remember wayyyy back in the mid-70's when the looming ecopocalypse was global cooling? That the next Ice Age was right around the corner?
All this skepticism is a good thing, just apply it equally liberally (so to speak

) to the Snake Oil Peddlers behind Kyoto.
I do like the oil analogy, and it'll come in handy against anyone who'd make the argument you set up.
