The same thing has happended to me. You awake in a panic and you have the feeling somebody is in the room and you can't move anything. After a number of these occurences I learned that the one thing I could do is wiggle my toes. I could then work from my toes to the rest of my body. Once I learned that, the frequency of these attacks went way down. I think the idea of being powerless exacerbates the problem and this technique gave me empowerment over it. Regardless, I hope it doesn't happen to me again, just the thought of it is scary.
