UPS are temsters, fed ex is non-union
DR (driver release) areas are in residential places where drivers leave stuff without signatures, if possible and safe in their mind.
fed ex actually rolls packages (held at the hub) until schedualed delivery day. I have a hard time understanding this practice due to volume at peak season.
during peak (christmas) if making a delivery at night sometimes they won't knock
all packages are different some reguire signatures ans some don't, even in DR areas
I don't work at either place anymore, but did for quite a while
some of this info may have changed over the years.
and ya, fragile just means they throw it underhand
