My dad is selling his '99 E430. 64K miles, extended warranty up to a little over 100K miles. It is silver with a grey interior, and has most of the options (heated seats, orthopedic seats, Bose, etc.). He is asking around $20K for it. PM me if you're interesed.


WE've had a Lexus in our family for over 10 years, and it has been a wonderful car. Few problems, and still a very smooth ride. The Mercedes has also been trouble-free and drives great. Both the GS 430 and the E430 are very good cars. Best bet is to drive both and see which you prefer. Keep in mind that Mercedes and Lexus offer certified used cars at their dealerships, with a warranty up to 100K miles. That goes a long way towards overcoming reliability fears. Best of Luck.


edit- I forgot to add, we have also had BMWs in our family. In general, they tended to give more problems than the Mercedes or Lexus, but they were also the best driving of the bunch.
