I would recommend driving up and down Comm. Ave near Kenmore Sq. (around BU) and looking for a meter. The streets are well-lit and there are plenty of expensive cars parked on the street. I doubt anything would happen to yours.
btw, your car may be in more danger parked in Lowell than in Boston.
