I dunno, they always told me, "no machine work while it's running", but this might fall under some kind of exception.
Seriously, this doesn't sound like a very smart plan of attack. I
have seen someone here do a simple extraction of a broken stud *stump* and screw in a new one w/o disassembly once, but it's in the Pelican "DIY Hall of Fame/Don't try this at home" archives. Drilling would be a whole 'nother kettle of fish, lots of chips.
