I am putting back together the gear stack on the pinion shaft after replacing a few items gears 1 & 2 and in between. I heated the bearing up and slipped it back on with a little persuasion. Now with the bearing on there is a small amount of play (1/16"-1/8") between 1st gear and the bearing.

Is this normal or should the gears be tight against the thrust washer and bearing (no slop)?

The car is a '85 Carrera.
