As both a former Marine and a law enforcement Sergeant, I think this punk shattered some family's lives. A woman lost her husband, children lost their father, a mother lost her son, some cops lost a comrade, and the community lost a servant. I also served in Desert Storm as well.

In the LA Times today, the young punk was identified as a gang member from the local thugs. He enlisted in the Marine Corps as an escape. He was not AWOL, but on leave. He was not scheduled to return to Iraq, but Japan in a non-fighting position.

My sympathies go out to the family he destroyed and also to the thug's family who he shamed.
