I could see that in colder climates by leaving the flap open would warm up the engine fine but I believe it closes and directs the cooling air to the oil cooler. In warmer climates I could see them just closing the flap and making sure the oil cooler gets it's air.I will be putting one on mine but the climate isn't that bad in Calif. By the way thanks for the Samba info.
